Get started

To get started, follow these instructions to sign in and join a class.

  1. Sign in to Classroom
  2. Join a class

After you join a class, you’re ready to complete common tasks or explore Classroom.

Complete common tasks

Communicate with your teacher or classmates

If your teacher allows, you can post comments and send emails in Classroom.

  • Post to the class stream
  • Mention classmates in your posts
  • Email your teacher or classmates
  • Share content from a mobile device

Join a video meeting

  • Join a video meeting for education

Start or turn in your classwork

See your feedback or grade

When your teacher returns your work, you can see your grade and any feedback. If your teacher uses a rubric, check your rubric feedback.

You can also check your overall grade in a class.

Explore Classroom

Explore the Home page

On the Home page, you can view and enter all your classes. Think of it as your Classroom Home page.

To open the Home page:

  1. Go to classroom.google.comand click Sign In.

    Sign in with your Google Account. For example,you@yourschool.edu or you@gmail.com.Learn more.

For each class you join, you get a class card. To enter a class, you click the class name on a card.

Tips:

  • To return to the Home page from within a class, at the top left, click Menu Get started with Classroom for students - Computer (1) Get started with Classroom for students - Computer (2) Home Get started with Classroom for students - Computer (3).
  • To minimize the menu to a collapsed version, at the top left, click Menu Get started with Classroom for students - Computer (4).

Overview of the Home page

Along with viewing your classes, you can also:

  • Open other apps, such as Gmail, with the Apps Launcher Get started with Classroom for students - Computer (5).
    For instructions, go to Open your email.
  • Switch accounts in your Profile Get started with Classroom for students - Computer (6). Learn more.
  • Open your To-do list.

  • Join a class as a student

  • Open your Classroom Calendar
  • Turn notifications on or off
  • Unenroll from a class

Explore the Stream page

The Stream page is the class message board. Your teacher might post announcements or classwork notifications. Some teachers let students post or comment on the Stream page.

To open the Stream page for a class:

  1. Go to classroom.google.comand click Sign In.

    Sign in with your Google Account. For example,you@yourschool.edu or you@gmail.com.Learn more.

  2. On the class card, click the class name.

Tips:

  • To return to the Home page, at the top left, click Menu Get started with Classroom for students - Computer (7) Get started with Classroom for students - Computer (8) Home Get started with Classroom for students - Computer (9).
  • To minimize the menu to a collapsed version, at the top left, click Menu Get started with Classroom for students - Computer (10).

  • See your class information
  • See your work for a class
  • Post to the Stream page
  • Join a video meeting for education
  • See your overall grade for the class

Explore the Classwork page

On the Classwork page, your teacher posts classwork and materials.

  • Classwork includes assignments, questions, and quiz assignments.
  • Materials include other class resources, such as extra readings.

The posts are organized under topics. To view materials or begin classwork, click a post.

To open the Classwork page for a class:

  1. Go to classroom.google.comand click Sign In.

    Sign in with your Google Account. For example,you@yourschool.edu or you@gmail.com.Learn more.

  2. On the class card, click the class name.

  3. At the top, click Classwork.

Common tasks on the Classwork page

  • Turn in an assignment
  • Answer a question
  • Work with a doc assigned to you
  • Run an originality report on your work
  • Check your work with rubrics

Explore the People page

On the People page, you can see the teachers and students in the class.

If your school allows, you can send emails from the People page.

To open the People page for a class:

  1. Go to classroom.google.comand click Sign In.

    Sign in with your Google Account. For example,you@yourschool.edu or you@gmail.com.Learn more.

  2. On the class card, click the class name.

  3. At the top, click People.

Common tasks on the People page

  • Email your teacher or classmates
